Children who experience violence early in life develop faster

Recent study shows that children exposed to violence develop faster than those who are not. Violence can take any different form such as emotional, physical or sexual with similar effect. This results in faster aging and onset of puberty at an earlier age. On the other end of the spectrum, deprivation causes delays in child’s development. Study included 247 participants ranging from 8 to 16 years of age. The researchers hope that the study result will help health workers determine when interventions are needed.

Key Takeaways:

  • Research has shown that children who experience violence age in a biological sense.
  • this accelerated aging can be detected in children in as young as eight years old.
  • Little is known thus far about whether or not this aging can be reversed or not.
