Learning Outcomes
The 1 Day +ProActive Approaches Course (Understanding & Responding to Challenging Behaviour) will give your staff teams a clear insight into the reasons for challenging behaviour. During the course they will gain significant benefit from the dynamic nature of the interactive learning, as well as the positive impact on understanding and information retention from the experiential exercises and video case studies.
The course covers the following:
- Introduction & Welcome (setting the scene).
- Defining ‘Challenging Behaviour’ and understanding the forms it may take.
- Taking a Positive Behaviour Support approach.
- Understanding of the value base associated with person centred planning.
- Understanding the ‘arousal cycle’.
- Developing a robust set of ‘De-Escalation’ skills and choosing the correct response.
- Understanding the different forms of aggression.
- Develop skills in balancing programmes (physical, social, educational, community)
- Including the people you support in behaviour planning (promoting inclusion, choices, improve wellbeing and quality of life outcomes).
- Consider behaviours to avoid by workers.
- Develop the use of low arousal approaches.
- The Law & legal context in relation to breakaway techniques.
- Breakaways (dis-engagement techniques) using +ProActive Building Blocks©.

Times: 9:30am – 16:30pm (includes mid-morning, lunch and afternoon breaks)

- Staff attending should be present for the whole session.
